The first painting is a view of on of the castles in the beautiful city of Naples.

The second is a painting of Vesuvius in Pompeii.

Next one is of the Parthenon from as close as I could get to it.

The 4th one is of the Pantheon.

Next is the sunset at St. Peters.

The Magnificent Colosseum.

And the last one is of a Villa inside the Vatican just outside a window in at the Sistine Chapel.

7 MOREOF MY 27 PAINTINGS I DID ON THE SHIP

The first two pieces are done from sketches done while in Kioso, a Greek island. We were tendered there in hope of the seas calming but they never did. the second one was as the sun was setting and we were leaving.

The next two are different views as we approached the Castle and fort at Kusadsi, Turkey.

The fifth is the sunset behind the Blue Mosque and Hagai Sophia, In Istanbul.

The 6th is my first view of ASIA from the Dardanelles Straights.

And the last if a painting of the bridge that separates Europe from Asia in Istanbul. I'm standing on the Asian side.

PAINTINGS FROM MY CRUISE!!!

The first painting is of some of the most interesting things that I had never seen before. They are Pigeon Towers. They are all over Alexandria, Egypt. Everybody raises pigeons. They are a delicacy in Egypt and are very expensive to eat.

The second is of the Giza Complex, from a distance they are impressive but as you get closer they become smaller it seems. Then you see that they are all covered around the bottom with garbage such as scaffolding. lumber bracers, steel rail supports and of course all the Harassing people try to sell you things. I have never been anywhere where the panhandlers were so prevalent.

The Next picture is a painting from my sketch of the Sphinx. It ain't so big and most of it is hidden from sight by all the contraptions around it.

The next painting is of the Sphinx, Kaufre and Memkere.

The next two painting are of flower arrangements found around the ship. ran out of sketches to paint.

The last is of the approach to the port of Kioso. Were were tendered at the port and could not go ashore because of high seas, to dangerous.

The photos are of my paintings I did while on our Cruise. I painted 27 pieces from sketches I would do during the day and them paint them that night or the next day. I hope you enjoy my trip with me as you come alone for the pictures. I am going to post about 6-7 each day till I get them all up on the blog.

From top to bottom.

TheBasicilia of St. Thomas in Rome A white marble church with a gold stature you can see from nearly all over Roma. It was just down the street from where our Hotel was.

St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. What a magnificent piece of history.

The Hill side of Chitivichia, Italy the port town where we got on the ship. About an hour from Roma.

A view of the Island of Sicily, Italy as we sailed by it. Did not get to stop there.

My first view of the Volcano on the Island of Stromboli, Italy.

Another view of Stromboli as we sailed past her. My first active Volcano to see.

and last for today is the Library of Alexandria, Egypt. It is the first thing you see as you enter the Harbor and it is Absolutely beautiful. and is built on the site where one of the Seven wonders of the ancient world was built.

He is now 15, the second drawing is of Mason, he is now 10. the first painting is the life of Colton he is 2 and the last on is for Owen, he is a little over 1. This is my only attempt at traditional Native American flat painting. I am proud of the Native America in me But do not feel that I qualify or understand the meaning behind traditional Native American folk painting. I have several great Native American Artist friends with whom I've talked about their styles and I do love the technique. Hope you like my efforts but I know they are really stiff. George "Woogie" Watchetaker, is a Cheyenne-Arapaho and was a good friend of mine.

The top painting was done the night after the bombing. It is full of images that I couldn't;t get out of my head. The concrete floors of the building swaying in the wind like ribbons of cloth. the helmets of the fire fighters. The baby's faces crying, that twisted tricycle from the day care. look for the date, the number 169 ( at that time that was the projected number, I still think it was that extra person never accounted for. And there is a ribbon and heart that everyone was wearing. it is 36X48 inches in acrylic
The second painting was done last year on the 15 anniversary of the bombing and posted on my daily blog for that day. It includes some of the same images in the first one and 169names of all the victims.
The third painting was done April 20, last year from memory as to what the memorial looks like today.
If you ever get a chance to go there DO. YOU WILL BE MOVED!!!!!!!!

Back in the late 60's and 70's Nina and I collected depression glass. Probably a little avidly. we had all the patterns in most of the colors. We collected cookie jars in all patterns, cups in all patterns, Dinner plates in all patterns, cake plates in all patterns, and almost a complete set of the green Princess pattern. We did manage to get several very rare and scarce pieces. When E-bay came alone, rare and scarce took on another meaning. We've sold almost all that we had. But we had a great time searching, finding and buying.

This painting represents a part of my life. shapes. colors patterns all represent some piece that had a particular meaning for us.

This is the second story window of the Kuerner's house at Ring Farn, Chadds Ford Pa.

Many of Andrew Wyeth's famous art works are done in and around this farm house. Anna and Karl Kuerners, German immagrants, were some of Andrews most cherished friends, I did get to meet Anna before she passed away. She asked me not to paint her because "SHE WAS ANDREW'S MODEL" I could nothing but respect that. Although since both are gone. I may do it one day.

The is the North East corner of the house that Andrew Wyeth enjoyed visiting and painting. Andrew lived about 3-4 miles from this house. His father N.C. Wyeth was killed in a train accident just over the hill in the left of this picture.

This is a sketch from my Wyeth sketchbook. Done in 1981 it is of the Dinner Bell beside the back door of the Karl and Anna Kuerner house at Ring Farm in Chadds Ford, Pa. The Kuerner house and it occupants were one of Andrew Wyeth's favorite subjects. Wyeth lived about 4-5 minutes from here.

I found this sketchbook the other day as I was cleaning up things at school. I couldn't put it down, it brought back so many memories. These are all on 8X10 1/2 inch sketchbook.

All the sketches were done in 1981 on a trip to Andrew Wyeth's worlds. These were done at Ring Farm in Chadd's Ford, Pa. about 4 miles from Wyeth's house. The home of Karl and Anna Kuerner life long friends and subject matter for Wyeth.

The bottom drawing is of a gate leaning against the top of the well house near the entrance to Ring Farm.

This is from a series on Native American subjects I did a few years back. All were done by the influence Picasso has on me n color and shapes. I actually got to see a stickball game. I was doing a residency in Seminole County and was invited to a game by ne of my students parents.

The players were not dressed like this but I imagined what it must have been like in the 18th, 19th centeries.

This little white church is located in Southwestern Colorado. Somewhere between South Fork and Pagosa Springs. Besides being White it was very Patriotic that day. It did have a blue roof on the tower and a reddish roof on the rest of the church. very picturesque.

Thius is a demo painting done for one of my classes last Friday. This house is still in the curve on the way outside of town on the west wide of Aberdeen. This is the way it looked back in 1880's when it was built. It was called the Castle at that time.

This was painted in about 40 mins. from start to finish.

The top photo is of a sunset as seen from atop the EAGLES NEST in Breschesgarten, Germany.

That is the sight of Hitler's southern stronghold and from which he wanted to rule the world. It is absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever seen.

The second photo is of a scene in Central southern Germany near Weiskertchen (white church) Germany.

This is not the castle a t Weiskertchen but very near there.

the top painting is done at one of my favorite places to watch a sunrise in Aberdeen, Mississippi. That is at the Aberdeen lock and dam. This is a sunrise behind the dam.

The bottom painting is done from a photo I made in the early 60's it shows a sunset behind one of the building at the old munitions plant near Prairie, Mississippi. That plot of land still leaves an uneasy feeling within me.

The top picture is a painting of a sunset at the Louvre in Paris , France. The pyramid is the newest addition to the museum. It was designed by I.M. Pei and caused a lot of confusion and discourse when revealed a few years back. For those that do not know I.M. Pei was the architect that did the Crystal Bridge in Oklahoma City.

The first painting is a scene from rural Duncan, Oklahoma. I was at a truck auction there when the sun started to set. I knew that the shapes of the surrounding trucks and structures would make a great silhouette picture.

The second painting is not in Giza, Egypt but rather at the LUXOR in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm sure it's not the same thing and I hope to one day experience the Giza version.

In the first painting you won't see any pelicans but they are there. This is a scene from Pelican Point in Southern Alabama. In fact it is believed to be the farthest point south you can go and still be in Alabama. It is somewhere near Fairhope and Daphne, Alabama.

In the 2nd painting you can seed two giants (mountains) lying on top of the ground, just waiting to rise up and take over the world once again. These are just two of the hundreds of this type formations you can find all over southwest Oklahoma. These are near Mangum, Oklahoma. The small one to the right is two-three miles beyound the front one.

The top painting was observed very early one morning when I got up early and looked out the window while working at the Quartz Mountain Fall Art's Institute about two years ago. You couldn't tell where the sky and the water separated except for the small strip of land on the other side of the lake.
that is Lake Lugert in Altus, Oklahoma. It looked like a really shinny mirror.

The bottom painting is a scene from standing at the end of my driveway and looking down the street about 5 p.m. one day just before one of our very bad tornadoes. I had never seen the clouds so dark and swirling around the great yellow sunset sky. Also notice the bright orange on the horizon. It was very scary yet SO beautiful.

This painting Chronicles my entire military career. I was in the National Guard for 6 years from 1966 to 1972. I was in a detached unit of the 223rd engineering Battalion. The main unit was in Aberdeen , Mississippi but I was in a smaller unit about 20 miles from Aberdeen, in Okolona, Mississippi.

My basic training was done at Fort Polk La. thus in the painting you will find the shape of La. My ATT training was at Ft. Leonard Wood in Mo.. You will also find the shape of Kansas in the picture.

You will find a patch of Spec 5 rank. an Eagle with the olive Branch. a hammer for the construction battalion. You will find a folded book which I did a lot of books while t Fort Polk. You will also find a cooking pot. I was a cook all four year after I got back from basic.

In this painting there is a line portrait of Him. his bible, a peach, and several other thing important to his contributions to the causes he loved and died for. Hidden in the painting is the opening lines to his famous "I HAVE A DREAM" speech and also the last part of the speech.

If your from Aberdeen you probably remember that Wilson's Grocery store was the gathering place for people on Saturdays. Men would usually sit on one side of the door and the women on the other side.

These were painted sometime in the early 80's and won several awards each during their circuit.

Jim Hussey won the "Men at Wilson's" and I don't know where the other one is. I'm thinking I put it behind another painting when I was short on a frame maybe and don't remember where it is. Do you know any of the people in these paintings. Wilson's was one of my favorite place to go to buy ANYTHING or just to visit.

This is Julia Randel and on of her grandchildren. Julia was living on Matubba St about as far out as you can go before the old road turned going to Prairie.

She was a client of mine when I worked in insurance while living in Aberdeen. I consider her a friend more than a customer.

Every time I would go back to visit relatives in Aberdeen I would go by and see Julia, The day her granddaughter was sitting on the porch with her is recorded er. I knew at that time that it was an award winner.

On one visit both Julia and the house were not there.

This painting won three first place awards during it show circuit. Several asked about show circuit. Generally shows will not accept works that are two years old so about two years is the circuit. After that you might get accepted in some smaller local shows but not national regional and generally any juried show.

The painting was done for the cover of a book being written about Allie Reynolds. Allie had just been made an Honorary Crow Chief when I did this portrait and he wanted it done with the headdress on. I had already done two other portraits of him.

Allie was from Oklahoma and played baseball with the Yankees in the 50's. He was a pitcher and is the only guy to ever pitch back to back no-hitters in a world series. he still holds 5 Yankees records may never be broken. He was called "THE CHIEF" because of his Native American status. He is the only guy who's name was on the corner of Yankee Stadium that is not in the Hall of Fame, and that's a shame. No one seems to know why.

The book was not finished at his death and was never published.

This church was built in 1905 and is one of the prettiest building in Aberdeen, I think. When I came to Aberdeen I noticed the windows in this church and thought they were spectacular. I found out from my in-laws that they had been featured in an article in one of the Memphis papers. That's when I went to the library and found out about their History and the TIFFANY connection. That's, when I first met Miss Peacock. Through the years i continue to be amazed that they are still there and not in the Tiffany Museum. They are priceless and perhaps on of Aberdeen's most valued assets. I thought this was an appropriate ending to my 365 series. Especially since a third of the 365 have in someway been inspired by Aberdeen and Monroe, Lee counties.

Today ends the commitment to do a t least on painting a day and post it. I have painted at least one a day this year and have posted at least one. In this series it grew to 380 you can see on the blog. I have done several more painting as commissions for others.

I am going to keep this blog and will post, off and own, others works of art that I do or have done. Ex. award winning pieces from the past that I want to share with my new FB friends.

Tomorrow is a new Beginning for me. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!! and I'll cry if I want to.

This house has a "NAME" in front of it but for the life of me, I do not remember it and neither can I find it on Google. Some one tell me please. When I move to Aberdeen, in 1964 the Turnage family was living it it and that what I have always called it. It is definitely on my top 10 list of favorite houses in Aberdeen. It is located on Franklin Street (SILK STOCKING ROW). I have painted this house several times and that's why I wanted to just paint the tower with the beautiful trees and fence with it this time. Mike Smith, who went to college with my wife, owned the time I knew the owner, he still may own it.

Tomorrow is the last of my 365 series. and I hope to post probably a piece with , little know, but possibly the most significant, ART wise, piece in Aberdeen.

How many of my Aberdeen FB friends remember Coal Chute Bottom?

I'm posting these two today because they are so similar in concept, idea and reason for me doing them.

I was googling, the other day for shanty towns, and first image caught my eye. It brought back so many images in my head of smells, textures, and images of wet places and feelings of depressing things as a child. Where I lived and some of the things I grew up with. Come to find out that I was born less than a mile from the place where the googled photo was taken. That picture was of "Boogie Bottom" in Huntsville Ala. I was born in Lincoln Village. I remember when it rains it was so depressing to be out doors, the ground was always wet and smelly with all the chicken and animals all around. I can still smell those smells and feel the discomfort I had as a child.

The second Painting is from memory of "Coal Chute Bottom, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. When I first arrived in Aberdeen in 1964 I learned of this section of town. It was really depressing to see how the people lived and in what condition the people lived. later around 1965 my job took me into that part of town almost daily, I got to know the people living there and could appreciate how they existed. They were happy and contented people. I remember when my brother visited me in 1966, I took him to coal chute to show him the condition of the area and to let him meet some of the people. Of course we were invited in, (southern hospital is extended everywhere in Aberdeen) and when my brother sat down on the "couch" a pig ran out from under it between his legs. These areas no longer exist.

I think I'm running out of days for the things I still want to finish and post to this 365/2010 series.

I know I visited Hal and Ruth Bourland there once with my mother-in-law. The Bourlands went to church with us when we lived in Aberdeen and their children were such a joy to know and call friends.
The first time I saw this place it looked like an Andrew Wyeth subject. This is not the first time I've painted this house.

This piece completes my Birthday celebrations of the famous artist and people who have influenced my life over the past 66 years. The colors in this painting are not Random. It is basically Yellows and Purples, Easter colors, without the Resurrection the birth would not be complete. The reds represent His shed blood. The greens a new life and rebirths and the blues Purification for all.

You will find hidden in this piece about 37 names by which the Bible refers to Jesus's names. The biggest and most prominent being JESUS AND IMMANUEL. I will list the others at the end of this post. Also hidden within the painting is a CROSS representing the death and burial. A city representing Bethlehem and a pyramid, and his journey into Egypt. You will find Dec. 15, A.D. 04, my personal belief the date by the roman calender. and THE STAR OF DAVID. You will find a piece of stem ware representing his first miracle. Here are some name to look for if you care to. Word, Lamb, Christ, Savior, Teacher, Way, Truth, Light, Prince of Peace, Mighty God, King of Kings, Son of God, Son of Man, Son of David, Apostle, Omega, Alpha, Prophet, Priest, Shepherd, Majesty, Redeemer, New Adam, Paraclete, Mediator, Messiah, Lord, and Head of the Church.

When you think about Jesus, and especially tomorrow, Remember all those names and what they all mean for us as Christians.

This is the place where my mother was born in, in the hills of East Tennessee. It is somewhere in Jackson County Tennessee. To the right You'll see my GREEN HORNET. I visited this place with my Grand father some time in the early 70's and it is so far back in the wood and under the hills, that he was still afraid of the moonshiners. So we didn't linger long. This was painted using an old Polaroid shot that was so faded and only browns in color. I remember everyone was a little afraid for me to get out of the car and take the picture. But, life is only an adventure, isn't it?

This is the last of the Mystery Houses in Aberdeen, that I know of. This piece is also done from a photo I got from Miss Peacock. On the back is written, "Still unidentified- Approximately 1903-1905.

Could be the I.M Johnson house across from the McDearmon house and the Clyde Wilson house. This could also be a rear or side view of the house. Notice the central, square, crowning element of the roof and the front structure on the extreme right. It is possible that this could have been a symmetrical structure, placing it between 2 streets. On the left, behind the tree, there seems to be another house."

Please, If anyone knows, or have any ideas about this house, I would appreciate any info.

This is done from one of the pictures Miss Peacock gave me to work from when I did the McDonalds store in Aberdeen, Mississippi in 1983. It is a scene of a lawn, tea or garden party on the lawn at the N.E. corner of Franklin and High streets in Aberdeen, Mississippi. When I got to Aberdeen in 1964 the third house in the photo was gone and I have never scene a photo of it. The other are still standing and are as pretty as ever. When I was living there the Robinson's lived in the first house and the

Turnages lived in the last one showing. When McDonalds redecorated ,4-5 years back I bought back the 3X4 feet painting of this and gave it to my brother. He said if they ever got rid of it he wanted it.

This was a house that friends of mine from Hatley showed e this past summer when we were roaming the hill country in Monroe County. The Thompson's and I had a very good time sight seeing all one afternoon.

anyone have any history to share about this place?

Medium: Watercolor on 149lb. cold press paper.

This house is located on the NW corner of Long and Commerce st, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. I've only known it as the Strawbridge House because that's who lived there when I sold insurance in Aberdeen, in 1965. I know there is another name on a sign in front of it, anyone know for sure what it says, Name and Date. I believe someone a few years back tried to run a B&B out of it.

I love the big round porches on the house.

This is my post for Tomorrow the 19th. I'll be up and headed for Arkansas so I'm getting it posted as I've just finished it.
