Today would have been Auguste Rodin's 170th birthday. He no doubt is the best academic sculpture since Michelangelo's. He is my favorite sculpture of Modern times. See is you can find these in the picture.

"WAVERLY"

This is No. 332 of my 365/2010 painting series.

There is much more FICTION about this place than there is FACT. Google Waverly for some excellent reading regarding the paranormal surrounding this place.

In Jan. of 1970 I was working with The Aberdeen Examiner and did a story about the architectural wonders of this beautiful mansion. Not realizing that I would get a little more than that. I met Robert and Donna Snow who had bought the place about 8 years earlier and was restoring it to live in and maybe have tours of it later. Mrs. Snow was so gracious to take me all over the house, hinting that t might be haunted. Be sure to read all about these paranormal events that began in 1970, especially about the little girl. That was not the focus of my story. My story was the architecture. It was and still is a marvelous place to see.

It was built in the Greek Revival Style with architects and artist from all over Europe's influences. That's a trick for 1852, the year assigned to it's beginning. It was the brainchild of a Colonel George Young from Georgia. I had the great privilege of taking two of my grandsons there for spring break in March of this year.

This is how this building looked in the late 60's-early 70's, I believe it was on the west side of the road. I know there were several church out that way and I got photos of most of them some where, I seemed to have lost a couple of boxes of photos. Things come to mind and lately I haven't been able to find what I know is hanging around somewhere. Oh well. If you know the name of this congregation or can relate any storied about it. Please do.

Matt Turned 40 today. Matt is my son-in-law. See if you can find all of Matt's family members name's in this pic. including the three cat's hey have owned.

All his schools are listed, fun places such as Vegas, Laughlin, Tunica, Disney land, Alaska, with a pink salmon, Mexico, Europe, His in-laws. Football, Basketball, Baseball that he played. A softball and a Lacrosse racket that he referees, And perhaps a few other things that mean something to him.

I'm posting this early because it will be after noon tomorrow before I get things back together at school.

HOW MANY OF YOU FROM ABERDEEN remember this.

It was the first Aberdeen landmark that Nina showed me when I came to Aberdeen in 1964. INCURIOSITY, Built by Stephen Sykes, A man, WW1 vet. That took his inspiration from west Texas oil rigs. This contraption was a 5-6 story split level living complex that took him over 50 years to get to this level. I NEED STORIES!!!!!! Who knows when and how it disappeared.

Did you ever get to go in it.  I have several interesting things to tell you about INCURIOSITY if you're interested in knowing more about it.

"THE PLAINVIEW HOTEL ABERDEEN, MISSISSIPPI"

No. 328 of my 365/2010 painting series.

The old Plantation Hotel was being torn down when i arrived in Aberdeen. But it had gone through many changes over the years. I have pictures i took of it and it had entirely different columns on it in the 60's

This painting is a composite of two VERY tiny pictures of it that I got from Miss. Peacock around 1983.

One was of just the top of it over another building and the other was the right side of the porch running down the west side of the building.

Ellis Harris was the last owner of this building. It was located over near where the Kroger Store is now.

 Aberdeen, or Monroe County friends, How many of you ever ate at the SOUTH SIDE CAFE? Do you know where it was located?

It was at the NW corner of Columbus and Bennett streets, facing east.  across Columbus street on the corner was Barnett's Grocery store. I actually ate a few Hamburgers out of there. They were always so good. The place as a clean as a new white shirt on the inside but the outside looked awful. I think I remember paying like 65 cents for the burger and a coke in a bottle.
