"MISSISSIPPI KUDZU MYSTERY"

No. 318 in my 365/2010 series
Title: "MISSISSIPPI KUDZU MYSTERY"
Size: 4 3/4X 6 1/2 inch image size
Medium: watercolor on 140lb rag paper.
On highway 45 north between Tupelo and New Albany Mississippi the was an old DOG TROT house on the east side of the road that was a landmark, sort of, for all who traveled that road to Memphis regularly. and directly across the highway, on the west side was this Forrest of trees that was covered completely by KUDZU vine. In the 80's when they finally figured out to kill the Kudzu this id what they found. It became quite a mystery because no one could remember ever seeing these structures before. No one knew anything about them. I don't know what ever became of them. I was coming from Memphis one day and was going to stop by to take pictures of the old dog trot and was pleasingly surprised but yet mystified because I knew that the landscape had changed and I certainly would have noticed them before and that's when I realized that they had been covered with the vine the other times I had stopped there.
I do hope you like what I do.

"MY FIRST MISSION"

No. 314 in my 365/2010 series.
"MY FIRST MISSION"
Size: 7x9 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. Watercolor paper.
On Nina and my forst trip to the Southwest we wanted to see all 9 of the "important" missions mentioned in the travel brochures. So we got a mape with their locations and started out. We got lost but wandered upon this little village near Taos and this was what we found to be the center of the community. My first mission experience. I did not realize but for hundreds of years these have being built and maintained, and that every little community had to have their own mission (CHURCH). We found not nine but 39 little mission churches in the area of Taos and Santa Fe.
I hope you like what I do.

Title: "UFO OVER QUARTZ MOUNTAIN."
Size: 7.5X10 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches 140lb. watercolor paper.
Look closely at the top of the picture in the blue sky and you will see a white spot. Sure was a UFO as far as I could tell. It did not look like a cloud at all, none other in the sky and it never moved. I watched it for several Min's. and it did not change shape. It just seemed to be hanging there. To me it was unidentified object. I did not see it fly though.

"TRIBAL HOUSE, NEAR MARTHA, OK.?"

No. 301 in my 365/2010 painitng series.
Title: "TRIBAL HOUSE, NEAR MARTHA, OK.?"
Size 8.5X11
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb.
This strange building sits all along about three miles north of Martha, Oklahoma near Mangum and Altus, Quartz Mountain. I asked for years if anybody had any info about it. No one does. The stones in it are about a foot thick  and some of then are as much as two feet in length. The lintles and sills over the open windows and doors are three feet across. I believe it was probable a tribal or council house for early native american clans. It is very similar to the council house in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Yes the stones are yellow in color.
I do hope you lke what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.

No. 301 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "OLD LEANING HOUSE ON NORTH BROADWAY, OKC"
Size: app. 8x10
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. watercolor paper.
This was the first thing I decided to paint, 34 years ago, when I first drove into OKC. It was such an imposing feature on the landscape, I stopped and too a roll of pictures from every angle, thinking that if I did not get the job I was interviewing for, that this building would be a winning subject matter. I did take the job and over the years this house was a winner for me several times. If you look very close to the left of the building you can see the OKC skyline The structure burned in the late 80's. The night it burned channel 4 did a photo-log about it using 14 of my paintings of the building to the song, Burn Baby Burn. it was good.
I do hope you like what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.
