Size: App. 8.5X11 inches
Media: Watercolor on 140lb. cold pressed paper.
This is an Indian burial mound at the CHUCAlISSA ARCHAELOGICAL MUSEUM NEAR Memphis Tennessee and Tunica, Mississippi. I think it is actually in Memphis. I had seen the sign for years and had never been to it. This summer, while looking for new things to experience, I decided to check it out. It is a very interesting sand historical place. I viewed and asked a lot of questions of the guides that was on duty. you cant see the mounds unless you go out behind the museum. So I asked where they actually were and the guard showed me. I asked if I could walk around and take it all in. Telling me not to disturb anything, which I would NEVER do. he left me along, I thought I was waling around enjoying but has an uneasy feeling that I was being watched by something of a higher power, spiritual like. Look to the right of this painting, from my photos, see the light, sky, between the trees, Is that a large "INDIAN FACE" watching me? I think it was!!!!!

"CHURCH OF CHRIST, PREACHER ARNI"

Title: "CHURCH OF CHRIST, PREACHER ARNI"
Size: 8.5X11 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. deArches watercolor paper.
Let's see who all really reads my blog.
How many of you knew that I was a "preacher" once? I sure was, in 1972, my first semester at Harding a friend asked me to preach for him one Sunday morning at Russel, Arkansas. He was going back home to Ohio for a visit and he never returned. My one Sunday turned in to 3-4 months. Russel is about 10-12 miles from Searcy and about all I remember from that experience is the drive. Well a few more little things. One of them concerns another side of me that you probably don't know at all. That is that I think I really could be a stand up comedian simply with two different stories I could tell that would keep you in stitch for hours.
One is that all the time I was at the Russel Church of Christ, I had this horrible FEAR that one of the two or three dozen elderly people at the church would die and I would be asked to do their funeral. The different scenarios that I came up with for NOT doing it are hilarious. The other story has to do with my vasectomy, I won't even start with that one.
I do hope you enjoy what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.

Title: "AMORY, MISSISSIPPI HOUSE"
Size: App. 9X12 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140 lb. cold press paper.
This house is in Amory, Mississippi.
I do not know exactly but it somewhere near downtown. I worked from a black and white Polaroid taken some where in the late 60's or early 70's. I was going to do a one-man show in Amory so I went to research the architecture and history of the Amory. I wanted to include some of the scenes of Amory in the show. I got sick and the show was never hung. Maybe another day??? Anyway, for some I remember the house being a very light yellow with a this rich green roof. Mississippi friends, any info on this house?

Title: "TALKING ART COLLAGE"
Size: 12X14 inches
Medium: Watercolor, acrylic, papers, fortune cookie fortunes, friskit, crayons and paint pens.
Two friends, Clint and Clinton (my middle name), met at the Lido for lunch yesterday to talk about art. we ate, talked, and looked at art. I had thoughts about art, He had thoughts about art and we both agreed perhaps a show. As we finished i opened my fortune cookie and it read.'YOUR ARTISTIC TALENTS WIN THE APPROVAL AND APPLAUSE OF OTHERS." as I was paying the ticket he read his fortune cookie and handed both the slips to me as we were waling toward my truck. His cookie read, "TALENTS THAT ARE NOT SHARED ARE NOT TALENTS". We are going to work on a show.
I told him that these fortune slips were going into a collage for my today's post. I don't do many collages, He does collages so I wanted to commemorate our meeting.

"PRINCE'S GENERAL MERCHANDISE, ESTILLFORK, AL."

No. 233 of my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "PRINCE'S GENERAL MERCHANDISE ESTILLFORK, AL."
Size: 8.5X11 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. cold pressed paper.
This is in the mountains of Northeast Alabama in Jackson County. It is well hidden in the woods near Princeton, Alabama. It is still in operation and serves as the Post Office for those mountains. It is the smallest Post Office in Alabama. It is absolutely beautiful in those mountains. This is the region and that Curly Putman called home and it inspired him to write the all time great hit song, 'THE GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME". There is a resort there, Western type, that is used by people for reunions, conventions, etc, from all over the United States. In the 60's the U.S. Government bought a lot of the land at the top of the mountain there and set up three satellite tracking stations. It is an awesome site compared to what is shown in this picture but you can't see but one of the dishes now. the others were dismantled when technology out grew their need. If you're ever near Scottsboro, Huntsville Alabama or Huntland Tenn. be sure to put this beautiful drive on your plans.
I do hope you like what I do.
