"NEW TRAIN BRIDGE OVER TOMBIGBEE"

No. 200 of 365/2010 series.
Title: "NEW TRAIN BRIDGE OVER TOMBIGBEE"
Size: 10X12 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches watercolor paper.
This is another watercolor painted from the car. (Just too hot to sit out in the open). I parked in the parking lot at the Dam and painted it in about 30-35 mins. I love to visit the Dam it is so manicured and very pretty. I love the water.
I took my Grandson to the Dam back in March and we got to go up in the tower and the guy let us walk alone the sides of the Dam while it was letting a barge through the lock. They thought it was neat especially when they got to talking to one of the guys on the barge about where he was from and how long he had been on the barge since he left home.
I sure hope you like what I do. Comments and or remarks are greatly appreciated.

"ANNA'S ROOM, CHADDS FORD, PA."

No. 193 of 365/2010 series
Title: "ANNA'S ROOM, CHADDS FORD, PA.".
Size: App. 8X14
Medium: Watercolor on 300lb. hotplate illustration board.
This is the Anna that Andrew Wyeth used for many of his paintings done at Chads Ford, Pa. I met Anna on my trip to New England back in 1981. She is the only person that I ever wanted to paint that I have not done so. I asked her if I could take some pictures of her to use and very faintly she said "No, I'm Andrew's model", and I just couldn't do it.
There is a time that I will do it though.
This is the house at Ring Farm. The place that was owned by Carl and Anna Kuerner. less than two miles from the Wyeth place on the Brandy Wine River. To see a lot more of this place and Andrew Wyeth's work get the book " Wyeth at Kuerners" It a great book.
I do hope you like what I do.
Please add comments to my pages. and thanks.

"GEORGE, THE CARETAKER"

No. 190 of 365/2010 series
Title: "GEORGE, THE CARETAKER"
Size App. 11X17 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. student grade watercolor paper.
You've heard me mention George the caretaker in several of the post about my Andrew Wyeth adventures, Well this is George who was the caretaker at the Wyeth Home and estate when I went to Chadds Ford Pa. back in the early 80's. Al thought passing through all the NO TRESPASSING signs he was very gracious, after explaining that I had traveled several hundred miles to meet Mr. Wyeth, only to arrive a day to late. The Wyeths had left the day before going to their other home in Cushing Maine. George is the one who let Nina and my son John use the bathroom and when they came out Nina told me that I needed to go to the bathroom. I said No I'll be alright till the next gas stop. she said No you NEED to use the bathroom, Doesn't he George. I insisted No I'm OK, both she and George insisted NO, YOU NEED TO USE THE BATHROOM. They were right, it was in Andrew Wyeth's STUDIO!!!!! in the old Brandy wine Mill. I couldn't believe what I saw when I entered. There Among all the marvelous things was this painting of a girl with a ring of flowers around her head. I didn't know what this meant till about two years later when the Helga story broke on national news. No one was to supposedly seen or knew about any Helga paintings for the past 15 years, but when they showed that one on the news I recognized it. and knew what a big PR stunt that Betsy, his wife had set up.
I sure hope you like what I do.

No. 188 of 365/2010 series
Title: "DEVIL'S CANYON"
Size: App. 10X14 inches
Medium: Watercolor on DeArches 140lb. cold press paper.
Yesterday was Northwestern Oklahoma, today is Southwest Oklahoma.
This is Devil's Canyon, located between Hobart and Altus Oklahoma. It is federal protected land and No one is allowed into the canyon without Federsl permission. I have been in the canyon twice one alone and roaming before I saw the signs telling me not to0 be there. I came in the back way. with directions from Native American old times in the area. The second time was with my son John when he was 14-15 years old and a Federal marshal who knew of my interest in the area.
Had a great time but felt the ancient spirits of the Spanish explorers who left untold treasures in the canyon.
I do hope you enjoy what I do. Looking forward to Catfish with FB friends tonight in Mississippi.

"BISON"

This is the No. 186 of 356/2010 series.
Title:BISON:
Size: 22x30 inches
Medium: Watercolor and rabbit glue on DeArches 140lb. watercolor 100% rag, cold press paper.
A symbol of the old west and found a lot in Western Oklahoma, where I roamed, a week or so ago. He is a magestic animal.
Yhis technique involves outting dowm layers of rabbit glue on the paper first and then between layers of each color of watercolor you use in your work. of coure drying each layer before applying the glue. 4 colors were used here, Yellow ochre, burnt sienna, permanent brown and lamp black. layers of colored are applied from lightest to darkest, black being on top.
The you start lifting out and blemnding colors with water and the same paints. You can take the colors all the way off back to the white paper if you want to.
It is time consuming but well worth the disipline it take to do it. I do hope you "KISS" your subject when you tackle this. K.I.S.S. = "Keep it simple stupid..UHH I mean STUDENTS. Keepit sumple students"
My young students like me to use this. They laugh a lot.
I do hope yoiu like what I do.

Title: "MY BROTHER AND SISTER"
Size: App. 11X14 inches
Medium: Watercolors on 140lb. DeArches watercolor cold press paper.
This is my painting I did from a photo of my Brother Bobbie Wayne Anderson and my Sister Tharon Carlene Anderson Langdoc, that was taken at breakfast at the Delta Deli in Huntsville. Over the past 10 years we have gotten closer together after not so much contact while raising out families hundreds of mile apart. We have been together once or twice a year for reunions, Christmas of just to visit during these last few years. I am at Bob's house right now because neither he or Carlene will be able to make it to the family reunion in Huntsville this year. Bob lives in Searcy, Ark. and Carlene lives in Whiting, Indiana.
Just feeling nostalgic and wanted to show them I'll miss them this year.

Title: ATHENS JAIL, MONROE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI"
Size: App. 9X11 inches
Medium: Watercolor on DeArches 140lb. cold press paper.
This is how the jail saw it the last time I took my mother-in-law to Hatley.
She always wanted to go to Hatley just to look around and visit some friends every time I went to Aberdeen to check on her.
This is one of the few buildings that I have encountered that I liked it better before they renovated it.
I love it the way i have pictured it in this series in the 60"s. The house look with the gingerbread in the gable. I have been told that the first floor and the basement in this building is several feet thick. I've never been inside it so I don't know.
Thanks for looking, and I do appreciated all you're remarks and comments.

Coming from Amory to get on 25 to Aberdeen just as you get on 25. there is a little dirt road that angles off to your right. There was this shack with an American flag and a beach towel with Mickey Mouse surfing hanging on the porch. I'm a Big Mickey fan and also an American flag collector. So it was a Moment for me. Title: "ROUTE 66 MOTEL, TULSA, OKLAHOMA"
Size: App. 8.5X11 inches
Medium: Watercolors on DeArches 140lb. cold press paper.
This little motel still stands on the west side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is no longer in operation but it still is painted and care is taken to keep it very attractive to the Rt. 66 lovers.
I have traveled every foot of Rt. 66 from both state lines of Oklahoma. In 1991, i wanted to see how much of the original was still visible. I know a lot of it had been re-routed and that a lot of the original was on private land now and not used for transportation. I did fins a lot of places where i could walk it that is way off the beaten path, SO I walked it. there is still a lot of it you can get to if you know how to find it. Follow the old telephones lines or the rails. You find it near either or both .
I do hope you like what I do.

Title: "EWELL WEAVER'S HOUSE, HATLEY, MISSISSIPPI"
Size: App. 8.5X11 inches.
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches cold press paper.
Ewell Weaver was a relative of My wife Nina, a second cousin. Ewell called me one day, I had never met him, and said that he was an artist and need some help in making acrylics work. Naturally I was obliged to help him. When I got to his place, I fell in love with how he had tried to make the place look good, little touches like the large pink flowers he had planted around his yard and hose and his bright blue truck parked next to the house. Look for the back side of this place in the future. Yes, we did get Ewell on the right track with his acrylics.

Title: "PRAIRIE, MISSISSIPPI c. 1968"
Size: App. 8.5X11
Medium: Watercolor on DeArches 140lb. cold press paper.
This is how I remember the little town of Prairie being in the late 60's.
I thought the first time I saw it that someone needed to sell Hollywood on using it for some westerns. Still think that would be a great idea, from I remember see in March this year.
The sign over the store to the right, NE MISSISSIPPI GAS CO.
This is only one of the little "Downtown" areas in Monroe county that I plan to paint in this series.
I do hope you like what I do.

Title: CONESTOGA WAGON"
Size: 8.5X11 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. rag paper.
This old broken down Conestoga wagon from around the turn of the century was sitting out in the field behind the motel I was staying at in Altus, Oklahoma. Just couldn't resist it. The original photo of this was published in a coffee table book published by a television station in OKC to raise money for an organization back in the early 90's. It was a book of selected photographs about images of Oklahoma. I had two images accepted for that book.
This, and the car, posted today, are going to be the first in a series of modes of transportation.
I do hope you like what I do.

Title: "ANDREW WYETH'S BEEHIVES"
Size: App. 8.5X11 inches
Andrew Wyeth's favorite hobby was raising bee's
These are three of the hives that were near where my family and I had a picnic on The Wyeth's lawn.
After traveling several hundred miles to see Andrew Wyeth, I had told him I was coming to see him on the phone, I was not going to let any No Trespassing signs stop me from getting to his house.
George the caretaker told us that the Wyeth's had left the day before going to their other house in Maine. So after we had out picnic and got a fantastic look at his studio, we headed for Chushing Maine. More to come about that.
I see the third did not make it on this post so I'll post it by itself.

Size: App. 8X11 inches

This house may have led to my love of architecture and F.L Wright.
I use to pass by this house on my way to school everyday. I only lived in Calumet City for the junior and senior years of high school. We walked to school a lot and this is one of the houses on the way. I don't know who lived there but maybe Bob, my brother can lend some help there. I always thought the mayor live there. I really don't remember knowing about Wright till after i knew about this place.

"FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT N ALABAMA"

This is the No. 161 painting in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT IN ALABAMA"
Size: App. 8X11 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. rag paper.
I am really a frustrated architect and if it hadn't been for my poor math education in middle and high school I would have been on.
F.L Wright has always been one of my favorite American Artist and I thought I knew every thing about him. All my papers in High school and first year of college were done on Wright.
I did not know till a few year ago that he had anything in Alabama. I did a workshop for the Florence Alabama art community and one of the girls in the work shop said, in passing, that she lived near the Frank Lloyd wright house and I questioned that. She was right, about Wright!!!
The house is the Rosenbaum House built in 1939 and it is the only thing of Wright's in Alabama.
The girl later sent me a video of a documentary airs on the Alabama Public Network. It is really good.
I do hope you like what I do.
