OLD TRUCK SOMEWHERE IN NE MISSISSIPPI"

No. 231 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "OLD TRUCK SOMEWHERE IN NE MISSISSIPPI,"
Size: App. 9X12 inches.
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. paper.
Back to modes of transportation. This was spotted in north east Mississippi on my way from Aberdeen, Ms. to Huntsville, Al. this summer. I'm a sucker for abandoned old cars, trucks, trains, planes, boats, etc. The closer to the road the more chances I'm gonna stop and look at them. Eventually plan to paint ALL of them.
Wish they could tell me about their life's experiences. Where they've been, who all road them, things like that. Why, Just because!!!!!
I do hope you get some pleasure out of what I do.

No. 230 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "COLOR SNAPDRAGONS"
Size: 22X30 inches.
Material: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches cold press paper.
This is the same drawing as the textured snapdragon painting I posted yesterday. This piece emphasizes Color. In other words the first impression you should have when you see it is The colors. You see the colors first and then start looking for other principles in the piece.
I do hope you like what I do and are having fun with the pieces like these.

"HANGING SNAPDRAGONS"

No. 229 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "HANGING SNAPDRAGONS"
Size: 22X30 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. cold pressed watercolor paper.
This is the another of the paintings done for a design and color theory workshop. It is one of the flower pieces and painted to emphasize the design principal "TEXTURE". This pieces was not pushed as far toward the TEXTURE as the other three pieces I'm posting because I want to show at this stage how easy it could be to take it to one of the other principles. It could easily go to a line , shape or color piece. Art is a constant change.
I do hope you like what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.

"STRIPPED MACAWS"

No. 227 of my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "STRIPPED MACAWS"
Size: 22X30 inches
Medium: Watercolor and acrylic on 140lb. cold press paper.
This is one of four paintings that I'll be posting the next four days. They are in preparation for one of my 5 day workshops in 'RETEACHING COLOR THEORY AND DESIGN".
This piece and tomorrow piece is from the same drawing of 5 Macaws. This piece emphases the design principle of LINE. Meaning that the first impression made upon the viewer should be LINE. If you look closely at the five round spots in the painting, these are the eyes of the birds. Have fun tracing their outLINE. This piece also uses line in all forms, broken, wavy, curvilinear, modulating, variegated, implied and centritcic. The black ovals are not eyes but nostrils.

No. 225 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "NIGHT BLIZZARD"
Size: App. 15X22 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. cold press paper.
This was a little experiment I did with the Demo that I did last Thursday to show Hannah how to paint her snow scene. After she left I got thinking about how to make a night time painting out of the demo. I re-wet the entire painting, Yes you can re-wet watercolors, if you do it right, and then laid in a dark Thalo Blue wash over the entire piece, threw salt on it, let it dry completely, and here's the results.
I do hope you like what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.

No. 223 in my 365/2010 painting series.
Title: "PHOENIX PALMS"
Size: App. 18X24 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches cold press paper.
This entire painting was painted with a burr from a Coconut palm tree
from Hawaii. A little over a year a friend of mine went to Hawaii and brought back this little burr from a coconut, she said that the Natives of Hawaii used them as paint brushed to do art work. It does look a lot like the fibers in a bristle brush you might buy at the art store. Anyway, I found it yesterday and decided to use it. Since I have not been to Hawaii. I decided to paint some palm trees that I saw at the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, Az. Here is the results. I'm going to post a picture of the little "burr" I used later today.
I do hope you like what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.

Title: "ADAM-FRENCH HOUSE ca 1855 ABERDEEN, MS."
Size: App. 11X14 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 100% handmade rag German paper.
All the time I lived in Aberdeen, this was the Masonic Temple. I have painted it many times. I have never been inside this house, one of two that I have not been in in Aberdeen. The present owner, Dwight Stevens was going to give me a tour in June but we couldn't make it happen. My father-in-law lived in this house when he first moved to Aberdeen in the early 40's, it was a boarding house at that time. It has been restored after a fire a few years back and is so commanding of the area where it is located. Can't wait for that tour, maybe next year.

BIRTHPLACE OF WALMART???? SAM WALTON

No. 207 painting of 365/2010 series.
Title: "BIRTHPLACE OF WALMART????" SAM WALTON
Size: 8.5X11
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches watercolor, cold press paper.
Sam Walton, if you live in America and don't know who Sam Walton was then you probably don't get out much.
Sam Walton started Walmart.
Google Sam Walton's birthplace and you'll get two answers. One is Kingfisher, Oklahoma and the other is NEAR Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Go to Kingfisher and you'll still get both answers. I wanted to know and see his birth place. I was in and around Kingfisher 3-4 hours asking everyone i tho0ught might know, especially the people at the newspaper and the little museum there and they gave me the same info. NO ONE REALLY KNOWS. It seems to be one of two places, a house that no longer exist in town but thats up to speculation as to where it was and the other is that it is about 5 miles outside of town. By this time it's now a quest, I'm gonna find it. I got the name of the lady that most said was the biggest help in the BBS documentary done a few years abck. Called her cell phone, she was in Altus at a DAR convention but did tell me she thought it was the place out side of town near LOYAL, OKLAHOMA. I went baqck to the museum with a little more information form that ladyt and found a plot of land with the name Walton on it about five miles outside of Kingfisher at the place called Loyal. I went back to the
court house and found maps and charts showing the plot the Waltons, Sam,s mother and father, Thomas and Nancy Lee Walton, owned and lived on when Sam was born March 29, 1918.
This is the only house anywhere near the land they owned. Could this be the place Walmart was born or has that house been taken by nature, long ago. Just having fun.
I do hope you like what I do. Comments and/or remarks are appreciated.
