'ATHENS JAIL, ATHENS MISSISSISSP"

This is the No. 44 painting in my 365/2010 series.
Title: "ATHENS JAIL, ATHENS MISSISSIPPI"
Size 6x8 inches
Medium: Watercolor on 140lb. DeArches cold press paper
This was the first jail built in Northeast Mississippi. It is located in the Athens Community in Monroe county, Mississippi. It is between Amory and Hatley Mississippi. This was the way it looked the first time I saw in int 1964. I watched it go further into disrepair and an attempt at a restoration. over the next 40 years. I have painted this structure from all angles in all type of weather conditions. You may see some more of this building during 2010. On interesting thing about this building is that the bottom walls, (basement) were 3 feet thick concrete.
